Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports federal clients and partners in their efforts to provide web and desktop tools to help analyze, visualize and manage scientific data. Active project relationships result in applications that need frequent change to keep software products relevant. The Programmer would be a member of a team that follows a pseudo-Agile development cycle. The team promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, continuous improvement and flexible response to change in requirements.


CNT is looking for a Computer Programmer I to support their team in Lafayette.

  • Support ecosystems research and outreach efforts
  • Support work which can extend to seismic and or surface water projects
  • Support the wide variety of research performed by the Federal government with national and international impacts
  • Develop web applications utilizing C#.NET developed in Visual Studio on IIS web servers either on premises or in the AWS cloud with various database backend data store
  • All work directed by senior staff with a software specification that may include use case workflows and user interface design templates along with the information on backend APIs
  • Familiarity using code to access databases where tabular and spatial data is housed (MS SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Support senior staff on database design and implementation
  • Provide documentation to include in-code documentation of their work product along with supporting senior staff on umbrella documentation for the project at large
  • Documentation efforts will also include regular interactions with a JIRA ticketing system to track issues and maintain the historical record of the project
  • Test both developed code and test software from colleagues in the group
  • Develop test plans, participate in the establishment of automated testing pipelines and perform unit testing, functional testing, performance testing and usability testing


  • Monthly report describing the progress and status of work


  • This position does not have management authority or supervisory capacity


  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
  • Code repositories (i.e. GIT or SVN)
  • Continuous integration tools (i.e. Team Foundation Server or AWS CodePipeline)
  • Geo-spatial data (i.e. feature classes, shapefiles, gridded rasters)


  • C#.NET as a software development language
  • T/SQL or PL/SQL
  • Enterprise database communication language
  • Basic concepts of enterprise database structures to store and retrieve data
  • Git or SVN including branching and pull requests
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicate with product owners and users
  • Visual Studio, Eclipse, or Netbeans as a primary Integrated Development Environment
  • GIS environments and geospatial data
  • Building and maintaining geospatially driven web applications
  • The concepts of continuous integration / continuous delivery as part of a code deploy pipeline.


  • Office environment, travel for field activities and/or meetings may be needed.
